Selling “Gemma” - Step 1: Prepare to Sell

I went over to eBay Motors and clicked on “How to Sell a Vehicle” in the “Sell” tab. The guide presented four steps: 1) Prepare to Sell; 2) Create Your Listing; 3) Manage Your Listing; 4) Complete the Sale.

I figured Step 1 would be a good place to start and quickly registered myself with eBay for a seller’s account as instructed.

Next, I found that eBay provides you with an extremely helpful checklist cleverly entitled the “Sell Your Vehicle Checklist”. With checklist in hand, I went back to Gemma and her user’s manual and collected all the info I needed: VIN, mileage, make & model, equipment, etc. I even called our mechanic and got the repair history.

With all the info collected, the next step was to take the pictures, so I grabbed my digital pocket camera (nothing fancy) and snapped a bunch of shots Austin Powers style (complete with plenty of “Yeah Baby”). I could tell Gemma enjoyed being photographed while looking all fresh and clean.

Here are the 24 pics that will be in the eBay listing (the limit is 24):

I took a bunch of exterior and interior pictures, a couple of the engine, one of the odometer and VIN, a few of the most egregious imperfections. Given the circumstances (sunny day, type of camera, etc.), I feel as though they came out quite well.

With the picture taking complete, Step 1: Prepare to Sell was complete as well. So, it was time to move onto Step 2: Create Your Listing…
